I didn't do this and had to throwaway my first mould as I hadn't moulded it properly. The instructions say to dip the mouthpiece into just boiled water for 5-10 seconds. Any longer and you will ruin the mouthpiece. Quickly shake off the excess water as you lift it out of the water, don't worry you won't burn yourself as the mould stays cool. Be very quick to put the mouthpiece over your teeth and suck in the air while pressing it into your teeth with your fingers. You shouldn't need to hold it longer than about 15 seconds.
You then take the mouthpiece off and squeeze a layer of the gel across the front of the mouthpiece. Pop it in your mouth and try not to talk for about 45 minutes(or longer if you want but I'd recommend only trying it out for 45 minutes the first few times).
